Dick Clark, host of television's "American Bandstand," was born this day in 1929, and for 30 jitterbug years he coaxed bashful teens out of their corners and onto the dance floor. Today lots of these teens are homeowners, but they still get hung up in corners especially when it comes to finishing drywall. Drywall sanding usually is done with a sanding pole which works well for flat areas and open spaces. But for do-it-yourself amateurs, sanding corners is a bit trickier because the edge of the pole's pad actually can sand a groove into the wall if one is not careful. For small one-time jobs, consider ditching the pole and switching to sanding sponges. These handy wonders have a grit coating that goes a long way when sanding drywall. There are special ones made for corners, too. Like Dick Clark, a sanding sponge will get you out of the corner fast and smooth, and (unlike your wild misspent youth) you won't be "grooving" anymore. And that's the On The House tip for today.
