Miter-helper for Martha

Homemaker guru Martha Stewart was born on this day in 1941. Here's a handy little tip she would absolutely love. Are you putting up wood moldings and trim at your house on walls, around windows and doors? Are cutting all those precisely mitered corners driving you crazy? Don't fret. While there are many tools and techniques dedicated to mitering, you can avoid them altogether. Just take a look at a much older home. Take note of the decorative corner blocks where the head and side casings meet, and decorative inside- and outside corners where base moldings take a turn. They're still a good idea today because they eliminate most mitering. They're available at most hardware stores and lumber yards. And that's the On The House tip for today.
