When you think your caulking tube is empty, don't throw it away. The plunger on most caulking guns doesn't extend all the way to the end of the tube. As a result, a half-inch or so of caulk remains. Next time before you heave-ho, remove the tube from your gun, cut off a 1-1/4-inch x 3-inch piece of dowel rod, slip it into the tube and start caulking with your once-thought-to-be empty tube once again.
