Dust-buster Catch Bag

Are you planning to drill a few holes in wallboard or plaster? Better get ready for dust -- lots of it. Here's how to make a disposable dust-buster catch bag. When you drill into drywall or plaster, even very small holes produce a surprising amount of dust -- and not just any dust. The process produces lots of very fine dust that drifts all through the house -- getting into everything. To solve this situation, tape a small paper bag on the wall just 2 or 3 inches below where you plan to drill. Use one long strip of masking tape across the back (to prevent any dust from falling behind it). When you drill, the dust will drop down into the bag. Then peel off the tape and move it to the next location -- as many times as necessary. And that's the On The House tip for today.

When you lose small items, haul out the vacuum cleaner and cover the end with a piece of pantyhose or cheesecloth held in place with a rubber band.
