Quick-Fix Tread Tricks

When snow and mud make stairways slick, shoes and boots can loose their grip. But there are ways to nix a messy mix with nifty quick-fix tread tricks. There are many paths to better traction. Many stores stock slip-resistant treads in different styles, types and sizes that can be applied right on top of the step, And most paint stores will custom-mix porch and deck paints with different kinds of grit and all types of granules to provide better traction on painted steps. Then there's our simple do-it-yourself solution that's quick, easy and inexpensive, too. When elegance is not an issue, just nail or glue a roof shingle onto each step. The granules provide great slip- resistance, and they wear surprisingly well, too. And that's the On The House tip for today.
