Tip of the Day

Living Room "Living" Room

"Good Morning America" made its debut on this day in 1975. Ever since, hosts like David Hartman, Joan Lunden and, more recently, Charles Gibson and Diane Sawyer have welcomed newsmakers and people of interest, as well as millions of viewers into their cozy living room set to start the day. If your home isn't quite as warm and inviting as theirs (because you don’t have an entry hall or foyer and your front door opens right into the living room with nothing between you, them and the great outdoors), you can make your room more livable. Set a tall bookcase or storage unit a few feet back from the door. It creates a mini-foyer and blocks gusty breezes, too. Once they're in place, set furniture in small groups around focal points, rather than just around outer walls. Lighting is important, too. Wall sconces make rooms seem bigger. Adding floor outlets in the middle of a room adds design flexibility. Got a plain square living room? Make it more livable with imagination. And that's the On The House tip for today.
