Tip of the Day

Fall Back / Check Batteries

Tomorrow’s a big day for football -- and for changing clocks. It's time for that spring-forward/fall-back thing, when we spend an hour resetting all our clocks, computers, VCRs and answering machines. When you make these time changes, let it be a reminder to check the battery in every smoke detector in your home. This practice should be No.1 on your must-do list, as family safety is second to nothing. To be sure, install fresh batteries in each alarm, and use the ones you take out for toys, portable radios and video games until their power expires. Tomorrow, when you set back your clocks, remember to open the smoke detector box, too. Spring forward, fall back -- and replace batteries. And that's the On The House tip for today.
