Tip of the Day

Will It Last? How Long?

Today Is Fred MacMurray’s birthday. He played Steven Douglas, the father on “My Three Sons” for eight years on one of TV’s longest-running family shows. In case you are wondering just how long some things will run at your house, here’s what the experts say about the life expectancy of household products. A wood deck should last 15 years, an asphalt driveway 10 years and a wooden fence 12 years. Central air conditioners should cool for 15 years while a window unit will last for only 10 years. A clothes dryer will dry for 14 years, while the washing machine will wash for 13 years. Newer microwaves will last for about 10 years. Ranges, both gas and electric, are designed to last longer -- about 20 years. Some things like natural wood floors, slate, flagstone and ceramic tile are expected to last a lifetime. Keep your dealer's and repair man’s numbers handy because most things won’t last forever. And that’s the On The House tip for today.
