Ready for spring cleaning? Who is? Yet it has to be done, and so you might as well do it right. With that in mind, we ask the question: when was the last time you cleaned your ceilings? Heat rises. Year after year it carries dust, cooking residue and cigarette smoke straight up and deposits it on your ceiling. Over time, ceilings start looking dark and dingy. To bring them back to their original condition, wash them, thusly: Cover furniture and floors with old sheets or plastic drop cloths. Then put a little liquid detergent in warm water. Using a floor mop with a clean sponge head, squeeze out as much excess water as possible and wipe down the entire ceiling. Then repeat using a clean-water rinse. Clean around lights and wall switches by hand using a damp cloth. When you're done, you'll be surprised how much it brightens up a room -- and your spirits. And that's the On The House tip for today.
