Arbor Day and FSC: "It's a Good Thing!"

Today is Arbor Day. It's a good time to remember that we cut lots of trees for everything from furniture and paper to lumber for housing. As needs increase, we use up trees faster than they can reproduce naturally. The result? Forests worldwide are disappearing. In 1993, the Forest Stewardship Council, FSC, was created to monitor and certify companies that only use wood from "managed" forests where trees are replenished and replaced, and nature's ecosystems are faithfully maintained. Today, more than 400 companies participate in 50 countries worldwide, making wood products only from managed forests. The FSC label ensures that trees and forests will be here for many generations to come due to high environmental standards and responsible forestry at all levels. The FSC label and saving trees is a very good thing. Look for that label when you shop, and plant a tree for Arbor Day. And that's the On The House tip for today.
