Tip of the Day

Doorbell-button Tune-up

If you're feeling a lonely and wondering where all your friends are, or, thinking "how come I don't get any special deliveries any more?" -- cheer up. Things might not be as bad as you think. Maybe your doorbell isn't doing what it's supposed to. This could severely hamper your access. To be sure, give it a test push. If it doesn't ring you can correct the problem, quickly and easily. Here's what to do: a doorbell system has very few moving parts, which means little can go wrong. Still, just a little corrosion on the contacts is all it takes to break the electrical connection. To fix it, turn off the power and remove the pushbutton cover. Then loosen the screws holding the wires. Remove and clean all wires with sandpaper or emery cloth -- you even can use a knife blade -- until they shine. Then reattach them. You just might discover you're more popular than you thought. And that's the On The House tip for today.
