Tip of the Day

Childproof Your Home

Today, many parents are so busy parenting they forget how curious little ones can be. As kids start growing up, you must continually outthink them at every age, every day, every step of the way. All kids love to climb, so keep pot handles and hot liquids out of reach. Whenever possible cook on back burners, and never set foods near a counter's edge. Be aware of what's in drawers and cabinets, and invest in a key-lock assembly for cabinets where cleaners and solvents are stored. To kids, yellow dish detergent looks just like soda. Even a trash compactor is a threat if it's not properly closed and locked. In the bathroom a toilet-seat lock can prevent little ones from drowning; even that small amount of water in the bowl is a threat. Folding door gates will keep little ones contained. Be sure electrical cords aren't a dangling invitation to pull. Electrical outlets, chemicals and poisonous plants all deserve special attention. A little care and forethought means years of comfort and love for you and yours. And that's the On The House tip for today.
