Careful Toxic Waste Disposal

Lots of people like doing their own automotive work. That includes oil changes in the driveway and, all too often, dumping the old, used motor oil down the drain with little or no thought of where it goes, and what it does to the environment. Every year 350 million gallons of used motor oil are dumped into storm drains. That's 30 times more than the oil spill from the Exxon Valdez disaster flowing into local waterways such as creeks, rivers and tributaries, and in coastal regions, directly into the ocean. When it rains, storm waters wash all this oil, and everything else it picks up along the way, into our waterways and onto our beaches with no filtration or treatment. It's dirty, ugly, and truly a health hazard for everyone, including you. Give the folks at your local waste management company a call. They'll give you advice on proper disposal and keeping your lawn a natural green. And that's the On The House tip for today.
