Tip of the Day

Carbon Monoxide Dangers

As if radon, lead poisoning and asbestos weren't enough to worry about. Your home is again under attack. This time the invader is odorless, tasteless and invisible. It's carbon monoxide, and it can give you headaches, make you dizzy and leave you feeling nauseous. Even worse it can kill you. It is a natural byproduct of combustion in furnaces, fireplaces, water heaters and gas appliances such as cooktops and dryers -- especially ones that aren't operating properly. So how can you protect your family from this invisible threat? Buy a battery-operated carbon monoxide detector with an audible alarm. Better yet, for a few extra bucks, you can get a CO2 detector unit that plugs in the wall. Many homes are sealed up nearly year round for winter heating and summer air conditioning. That's why we recommend putting one on every level in your home. It's one less thing to worry about, and you'll sleep peacefully knowing your family is safe and sound. And that's the On The House tip for today.

Animal Training: spot.com
For cats that scratch, dogs that yelp and pups that roam, local animal shelters are good places for behavior tips and obedience seminars. Or try going online.
