Cleaning Tips for Spring

Ah, spring is in the air and so is the smell of musty carpets, stuffy closets and mildew in the bath. If your house could use a little freshening up, here are some tips from us to you. Carpets smell a little musty? Sprinkle them with baking soda. Leave it for 24-hours, then vacuum thoroughly. They'll smell fresher and so will the whole house. If your fiberglass shower looks like a science experiment or like you changed motor oil in the bathroom, try making a paste of turpentine and salt. One-fourth cup of turpentine and 3 tablespoons of salt -- and scrub away. Grout can be cleaned with chlorine bleach or hydrogen peroxide. If that doesn't work, regrout. For dirty window screens or greasy stuff like range hoods and barbecues, team up with your neighbors and rent a steam cleaner. You'll be amazed how well it works. By renting it together, you keep costs at a minimum. And that's the On The House tip for today.

Floods and Roof Leaks
When a roof leak develops, drill a hole in the ceiling to reduce damage and to create a collection point for leaking water.
