Tip of the Day

Get Your Deck Into Shape

It's time to launch another summer of fun, but your deck looks like a disaster. What are you going to do? Grab your gear and get ready to hit the deck. Here are a few tips and tricks to help you get done and have fun in no time at all. Now you might find some stains are just too tough for common cleaning. No problem. Leaf stains, for instance, can be removed by scrubbing with a 50-50 solution of household bleach and water, and messy, dried barbecue sauce stains are a breeze to remove with auto degreaser or (believe it or not) carburetor cleaner. And you can remove nasty black stains from tannin-rich woods with a deck brightener from your local hardware store or home center. Just be sure to apply it according to the manufacturer's directions. Most cleaning solutions are best applied in the shade, not in direct sunlight. With a scrub or two here and a spritz or two there, you'll be lounging in the sun in no time. And that's the On The House tip for today.
