Few homeowners get through a spring and summer without having to paint something. This year, if it's spiffing up interior ceilings and walls, here's how to do it like a pro. First protect everything you don't want painted -- floors, carpeting, your spouse, the dog. Next patch any holes and damaged areas with vinyl spackling compound and a putty knife. If walls are textured, use texture touchup in a spray can. When it's time to paint, start with the ceiling. That's what Michaelangelo did and look how nicely his job turned out. First, use a brush to cut in edges and a roller to finish the rest, then do the same with walls. Cut in corners with a brush, the same around trim. Be very careful unless you want everything painted the same. Then get out your rollers and pans and shift into high gear. When you hit those open fields, put the paintbrush petal to the paint-pan metal. Once you've done those time-consuming corners and tricky trims, let ?er rip, and if you can't get it done in one day, cover your rollers and brushes with plastic wrap and put them in the refrigerator overnight. And that's the On The House tip for today.
