Holiday Cooking and Cleaning

The holidays are here again, and that means, turkey, stuffing and, yep, salmonella, too. Here are a few cooking and cleaning tips we think you'll appreciate all year 'round. Salmonella flourishes in warm places, as in the middle of a turkey with warm stuffing. Don't feed the problem, prevent it! Wait until your stuffing is cold before filling the bird. Better yet, cook the stuffing separately and rub the inside of the turkey with herbs. Finally, as you cook, keep surfaces as clean as possible. When the work is done, mix 1 tablespoon of bleach in 1 quart of water to sterilize all food preparation surfaces. And that's the On The House tip for today.
