Remove Caulking from Winterized Windows

Got windows that you can't open because they were caulked shut at the end of last fall right along with your storm windows? Well, don't be alarmed, we have a solution for you. Caulking is a great sealant, but most caulking compounds work the same way that glue does. Sticky, sticky. You can use a utility knife, chisel or a putty knife to cut or pry caulk from between the stuck frames. The caulking remover works better. Just squeeze it out of the tube onto the hardened caulk, wait a bit and remove the softened caulking with a putty knife. Our solution does not work on painted surfaces, so remove the paint before attempting to use the caulk remover.

NOTE: Liquid Nails makes a caulk-remover product, and you can review this online at: http://www.liquidnails.com/newstuff/newprod.html or you can buy caulk remover at your local hardware store or lumberyard.

And that's the On The House tip for today.
