Winter-weather Remedies

The end of the winter season doesn't mean the end of problems caused by winter weather. Winter rains that have pounded under the home can provide food for mildew growth in the subarea and subarea heating ducts. No, don't plan on crawling around under the floor in an attempt to clean the ducting. Disconnecting duct joints can do more damage than good. There are folks who are in the business of cleaning heat ducts. Look in the Yellow Pages under contractors, heating, duct cleaning. After a long winter, it would also be wise to check your furnace filters. Heavy use can cause them to become clogged and dirty. Make sure to replace the filter with the proper size. If not, you can expect a thin layer of dust from one corner of the house to the other the next time you use the heater or air conditioner. And that's the On The House tip for today.
