Installing Plastic Water Pipe in The Home

Chances are the water pipes in your home are made of copper or galvanized iron. Did you know that plastic pipe also can be used? But, be careful here. There are stringent rules that apply to the installation of plastic pipe. For example: all plastic pipe fittings must be accessible at all times. This means access panels must accompany installations of pipes in-wall, between floors and in closed attics. On the other hand, a quick repair in the basement -- or other open areas -- can cost far less using plastic. A caution or two: call your local building department to be certain that plastic is allowed in your area. Also, make sure the plastic pipe you use is properly rated for the temperature and pressure of the water that the pipe will have to deliver. And that's the On The House tip for today.
