I relieve stress by working in the garden -- pruning, shearing, aerating, planting and plumbing. That's right -- plumbing. My wife and I just planted our summer veggies, and to help ensure a good crop, we converted several nearby sprinkler heads to a drip-irrigation system. This system allows you to control exactly how much water will be dispensed, and the water never hits the blossoms. The conversion takes about 10 minutes. Replace the sprinkler head of your choice with a drip-watering emitter, plug one end of a piece of drip tubing into the emitter and lay the other end at the base of your plant. Hold the tube in place with a small rock or a 10-cent tube stake. Drip-irrrigation systems are low maintenance, low cost and stingy with water. Our system ended up costing about 75 cents per plant. Not too bad for a one-time expense. And that's The On The House tip for today.
