Steel Framing for Remodels, Too

Steel is becoming so popular in construction that even subdivision builders are using it to frame homes. And, when steel is being used by a subdivision builder, you know that the price is truly a viable alternative to wood. Yes, there are downsides. Steel with a cheap finish will rust. And a thermal barrier is required on the outside surface. But, steel doesn't rot, and you'll never have to fear termite damage. Because it is lighter, steel can be designed to be more earthquake-proof than a wood structure. And even though there is a cost associated with learning how to use this new material, it doesn't burn. And yes -- you still can hang a picture on a steel stud. And that's the On The House tip for today.
