Infiltration Control for Winter

Is it cold outside where you are? Is it cold inside where you are? Did you know the 35 percent of all heat lost occurs through holes? And you thought it was poor attic insulation. Actually, only 7 percent of the heat in your home is lost through poor attic insulation. Want to reduce your heating costs by more than 40 percent? It's easy -- fill the holes in your house and insulate your attic. What do we mean by fill the holes? Simple. Go into your attic and seal the gaps at pipe and duct penetrations, gasket electric plugs and switches, foam seal holes where drain pipes penetrate floors and walls -- and don't forget to check weather stripping at doors and windows. Insulation and infiltration control is a smart money-saving improvement. Don't wait till next year to do what you should have done last year. And that's the On The House tip for today.
