Pre-Heater in Hot Water Line

Want to save money on your utility bill? Water supplied to your home travels through underground pipes and the cool earth chills the liquid -- naturally. The problem is that cold water is more expensive to heat than water at room temperature. So, here's the money saver. Add an old water heater in-line and before the one you now have. Don't connect the gas to it, and make sure to remove any insulation from around the tank. Cool ground-water will enter the pre-heating tank, and be warmed to room temperature, saving precious heating fuel. Drain and bypass the preheater during cold months. And that's the On The House tip for today.
