Prevent Doors From Warping

Spring is coming and it is time to get out the paint tools and "brush-up" the appearance of your home. Here's a trick that will save you a headache this winter long after all the paint tools have been put away. As we always say, preparation is 80 percent of the work. But in the case of painting an exterior door, the most important part is making sure to seal all six sides.

Exterior doors have a tendency to warp and twist when the weather turns damp. That's a sign that the door hasn't been sealed on all six sides (outside, inside, hinge side, handle side, top and bottom). So, if you want to prevent having to repair the door next winter that you're about to paint this summer, make sure to seal all six sides. And that's the On The House tip for today.
