Tip of the Day

Proper Drainage

Water is a precious commodity in many drought-stricken areas of the country. It's also one of the single biggest enemies to one's abode -- especially water produced from rain or snow. Poor watershed and drainage will cause soil to swell and cause cracks over windows and doors. It can cause doors to stick and even rot to siding and framing members under the house. Start "water-proofing" your home by installing roof gutters and downspouts. But don't stop there, make sure that downspouts discharge into drainage pipes that carry water away from the house. Soil or concrete that surround the home should slope away from the foundation to further minimize damage. And that's the On The House tip for today.
