Prevent Water Lines From Freezing

Freezes are expected all over the country this weekend so if you want to reduce the chance of having a water pipe burst -- read carefully. Even at a very slow rate, a dripping water faucet will help to prevent a water line from freezing up. Remember frozen waterlines frequently result in pipe bursts and floods in areas where water is in short supply. Save the dripping liquid in a container for use at a later date. In the event that a burst does occur, turn off the main water valve right away. If you need water and can't find a plumber, here's a temporary fix: Cut out the damaged pipe with a hack saw, and use a piece of heavy rubber hose and two metal hose clamps to bridge the gap. And that's the On The House tip for today.
