What the Carey Bros. & Rebecca Cole are Talking About:
On The House broadcasted live this week with another edition of the #1 home improvement radio show around. With Thanksgiving right around the corner, Chef Jamie joined the Carey Brothers to discuss planning the special holiday. Questions covering the spectrum of home maintenance – from electrical wiring to woodworking, from exterior siding to interior hardwood floor treatment. These topics and much more were discussed – and it was all On The House!

Also:
DO’S & DON’T’S OF HARDWOOD FLOORING
Hardwood flooring can be glued, nailed or left floating. However, in some instances the method of adhesion is determined by the type of floor being covered. For example: plank flooring should not be glued to concrete. This is because there can be enough moisture in concrete to cause plank flooring to twist and buckle. On the other hand, the small pieces of material that are used to make parquet flooring are not readily affected by moisture, and that is why parquet is recommended for use over concrete. In kitchens, regardless of the type of floor that exists, finished-in-place, square-edge material should be used. The square edges eliminate grooves that become food traps, and when a hardwood floor is finished, seams and joints are protected from water spills.

WHEN YOUR WINDOWS ARE STUCK
This usually occurs when paint seals the joint between the window frame, (called the sash), and the stop -- that's trim that holds the sash in place. Freeing a stuck sash can be a quick-and-simple task. You'll need a few common tools. Start with a utility knife with a sharp blade to cut through the paint between the sash and the stop. Repeated passes with the knife probably will be required to get through several layers of paint. If the sash still won't budge, force a wide-blade putty knife into the joint between the sash and the stop, tapping it with a hammer. This should be done over the entire length of the sash on both sides. If the Sash still won't move, hammer the flat end of a pry bar under one corner of the sash and push down on the end of the pry bar. As soon as the corner raises slightly, repeat the process at the opposite side, alternating sides until the sash is completely free.
