Show Notes for January 31, 2009
On The House traveled to Tampa, Florida for this week’s show, to broadcast live from Rebuilding Together’s 14th Annual “Kickoff-to-Rebuild” event. Rebuilding Together partners with the NFL every year to rehabilitate a neighborhood in the host city of the Super Bowl. This years' event involved 1,500 volunteers, 1 historic community, 22 special families on one amazing day!
We had a chance to speak with a variety of attendees at our live broadcast from the backyard of the Stewart Home, one of the homes chosen by Rebuilding Together for a remodel. First up was a resident at the Stewart home, Tehron Stewart. He shared his appreciation and joy for the wonderful transformation of his grandparents' home. Tehron's mom also joined the program later in the show.
Several members of Rebuilding Together were part of the program, including Gary Officer, the CEO and President of Rebuilding Together.
Additional guests on the program were Jack Gerard from API, Mike Ryan from Scott Paint, Dan Moenter of Marathon Oil Company, Ken Myers of KVM Enterprises, Tires Plus, National Roofing Contractors Association, National Fix and Flip Network - he brought the Denver Bronco Cheerleaders to this event and to our broadcast. All of these wonderful sponsors not only donated product for each of these homes being remodeled, but also volunteered their time. There was also Captain Green Eye - a man dressed in green pirate attire, usually to encourage green initiatives in the schools, but today is was to spread green words of wisdom throughout the day!
A few fortunate homeowners being remodeled from Pine Street also with joined us On The House, including Ina Mobley, homeowner Jacqueline Taylor, and homeowner Laquanza of the Burke Home. Laquanza brought her Volunteer Captain of the Burke Home, Aleah Joos. Each home being remodeled are assigned captains to coordinate the entire project. Heidi Damon was the co-captain of the Stewart home and joined us to speak about every aspect of the home remodel, including the landscaping, kitchen, flooring, windows, doors and more.
This was an eye-opening experience for the hosts and everyone involved. On The House would like to thank Rebuilding Together and all those how made this event possible.
