Enjoy the Bounty of Fall Produce

Fall is my favorite season for bountiful produce.

The markets are full of fresh local flavors, the weather cools down and I just feel like cooking!
I love the plethora of squash, for roasting, making soup or puréeing as a filling for ravioli. And the apple crop is plentiful this year! I can’t get enough of sweet Honeycrisps and Braeburn apples, so here are a few tips to make your dishes come alive with flavor this season:

Buy local
Try to visit a local farmers market or look for featured local ingredients at your favorite supermarket. Search out apples grown in your state or beans, pears and figs that are grown around where you live. The farm to fork approach of cooking and eating makes everything taste better.

And go ahead, Bake away
Nothing tastes better than a warm apple pie, fresh from the oven and a homemade dessert always brings the family together, so begin baking early in the season to perfect those holiday sweets recipes.

And, Anytime of year is great for sharing the bounty of your kitchen but if this busy season has you too busy to cook, think of a theme and invite everyone to bring a dish, then let the conversation flow. It’s a great way to keep up with friends and share fabulous food, no matter what the season.
