What's Fresh at the Produce Stand?

Want to know what produce is fresh this time of year? Read on to find out...

Now is a good time to enjoy vegetables like asparagus, artichokes and avocados. Sugar snaps, snow peas and English Peas are also available, as well as pea shoots, one of my favorites, delicious in stir-fry’s and salads. By the way, did you know that May is National Salad Month? I think it serves as a tasty reminder to eat more greens!

( It's amazing to know that 1/2 a cup of Romaine lettuce provides more than 8 grams of fiber, 308 mg of calcium and the benefits of vitamins A and C -- all for only 82 calories. )

There's lots of citrus fruit at the market to choose from too....and Tangerines are at their peak right now. Their luscious juice is a great addition to your salad dressings or sorbets, or just eat them out of hand and....Expect the first peaches to hit the market soon...We're expecting a good crop this year.

Couple your gorgeous produce with a Pepper-crusted steak or Pesto and Cheese-Stuffed Chicken Breasts and pair a Pinot Noir or Sauvignon Blanc, 2 very food-friendly choices, with your meal for the perfect compliment.
