Spraying Your Roof

Question?

I have a 12-year-old shake roof. My neighbor has pine trees that drop needles on the roof. There is a company that does roof care in my area. Should I have the roof sprayed or not?

Michael

Answer!

Roof care will extend the life of the roof just as painting preserves exterior walls. If roof care is within your means, by all means proceed. Pine needles require special attention. They won't damage roofing, but are a fire hazard in the summer, and in the winter have a tendency to hold moisture on the roof. Treated or not, a roof will deteriorate where excessive moisture persists.
