Painting Plastic

Question?

I am writing as a correction to your article on painting Formica. You said that it is not possible to achieve a firm grip [paint to Formica].

Ta Da!! Dunn Edwards Paint makes a product called Versaprime, which is formulated to prime fiberglass, plastic, etc. I used it on all of the doors, all kitchen cabinets, and the bathroom cabinets 3 years ago. There has not been even one chip off all that paint.

Please run the information, as there are probably thousands of folks wanting to cover-up their 60's Formica. My guess is that other paint companies make a similar product.

Answer!

Our thanks for your comments. But, we want to remind our readers that the professional painting contractors that we spoke with on this issue and the representative from Wilosnart Company, a plastic laminate manufacturer, have all told us that there is no proof positive method of getting paint on plastic to adhere as it does on wood or metal. Good luck any way!
