Recessed Lighting

Question?

Q. Was wondering if you could give me any ideas on installing can lighting in my soffit. I have 6 inch cans which worry me on the height of the cans. Will they be too tall and hit the roof? I have 6 inch fascia.

Mike

Answer!

A. If you have six inch fascia it is a good bet that your rafters are about the same height. This would make it difficult to use six inch recessed fixture housings “six in cans.” Whatever your soffit height you can be sure that low voltage recess lighting will fit with room to spare. Low voltage units are much smaller than conventional cans and use a lot less power too. Also, they are equally bright. There is something called a “remodeler’s recessed light fixture” which is a unit that is made for installation without necessitating the removal of your soffit cover
