Q & A

Synthetic or Composite Decking

Question?

I live in an area prone to wildfires in the summer, and I was thinking of putting in a deck using synthetic material. Will this stand up to fires better than a natural wood deck?

Answer!

Real wood or the synthetic deck material burn at about the same rate. Having said that, we feel that synthetic decking seems an attractive alternative. Especially for those who are willing to spend about 20 percent more for a product that offers less maintenance than real wood. Synthetic decks will age and need cleaning, however, and can fade from constant sunlight.
