Stopped Up Toilets

My three toilets stop up at least once every two weeks, even with frequent flushes. What could be causing this? What are things to check? Obviously I'm trying to keep from calling a plumber and have my floors torn up. Thanks for your help and have a great day.

Frequent toilet stoppages can indicate a couple of things: 1) there are one or more members of the family who don't know what NOT to put into the toilet, or 2) a partial blockage exists somewhere down the line in your sewer that has a tendency to easily clog. Without having someone perform a thorough cleaning you might never find the problem. Sewer cleaning doesn't require removal of anything (flooring, walls, etc.). Ordinarily, it can be done at an opening known as a "cleanout". Unscrew the cleanout cap and pressure wash or "snake" the entire line with a tool of the same name _ a plumber's snake. You can do this job yourself but a snake that is large enough to do the job is also big enough to destroy your sewer system in the hands of a novice. We suggest a professional. In the long run you'll save. Once everything is operating properly, give your whole family a lesson in toilet hygiene. Nothing, absolutely nothing should go into a toilet except waste and toilet paper.
