"Beat the Clock" made its television debut on this day in 1950. Host Bud Collyer entertained home viewers by having contestants do zany stunts for money under the pressure of a ticking clock. Today, if you want new "wood-look" flooring you can avoid playing "Beat The Clock" and a host of other games like "Glue or Consequences" and "You Bet Your Budget." Today's new floors are a "snap" -- literally. Glueless wood flooring has tongues and grooves that snap together to form a strong, tight seal. This eliminates nailing. Installed wall-to-wall, they need no glue to hold them in place. The flooring just "floats" above your existing floor. Should it ever need repair or replacement -- or you want to take it with you when you move -- just unsnap it. Now, even renters can enjoy the beauty of the wood-look.
