Safe Holiday For Pets
How to protect Fluffy and Fido this season... at home and wherever they roam!
Sure you love and care for your pets, but safety's something they also deserve. This is especially important during the holidays when decorations, kids, sweets and treats abound, and unseen dangers lurk all around. Pups and kitties like to scratch and chew -- and electrical wires are a tempting toy. To prevent shocks and injury, keep loose wire off the floor, and run groups through a "cord-organizer" tube. For many, it is hard to imagine "death by chocolate" but it contains theobromine that is toxic to dogs. Just one ounce of chocolate causes serious trouble. If your dog has eaten some, head straight for the vet. Another danger is holiday decorations. Pets love Christmas trees, lights, and shiny tinsel. Use a sturdy base to avoid tipping, and put decorations up and out of reach. Also, house pets can, and do, escape, so all dogs and cats should wear an ID tag on their collars. Providing a safe home is the very best way to love a pet. And that's the On The House tip for today.
