Tip of the Day On The House with the Carey Bros.

Canned Safety Gear

Keep safety gear handy (and dirt- and dust-free) with a portable or fixed kit.

The final episode of "Mash" aired this day in 1983, capping 225 shows filled with laughs and make-do out-in-the-field" ingenuity. There were lessons to be learned. One was recycling whatever was on hand to serve another purpose -- like an empty two-pound coffee can. Today, for our purpose, such a can easily becomes a dirt- and dust-free container for safety gear that can be carried out into the field or permanently mounted on your shop wall. Either way, fill it with your elusive dust masks, safety goggles, ear plugs and work gloves. If you've got muff-type ear protectors, they'll sit nice and snug on the outside -- just like they do on your head. When the can is fully loaded, snap on the plastic lid.
