Tip of the Day On The House with the Carey Bros.

Garbage Disposal Plug

Don't get wet feet over installing a new dishwasher.

Installing a new dishwasher? A garbage disposal? Or both? Here's what you should look for to keep from flooding the kitchen floor. The discharge hose from the dishwasher empties into the garbage disposal. A close examination will reveal a plug in the disposal that closes or seals off the dishwasher water-hose inlet fitting. This plug should be left in place when there is no dishwasher hook-up, but must be removed when a dishwasher is connected to the garbage disposal. If you don't leave it in place, you'll soon realize something?s amiss when you run the dishwasher and water starts shooting out of the anti-siphon air gap. It's usually located alongside the sink faucet. It's a common mistake and a messy one to make. And that's the On The House tip for today.
