Q & A On The House with the Carey Bros.

Tongue-in-Groove Paneling Idea
Question?
In a recent column Diane M asked you what to do to refurbish the tongue-in-groove paneling in her kitchen that had been covered with plastic tile. You told her to remove the tile and refinish the wood. I propose another, hopefully much simpler solution. Tongue-in-groove is usually identical on both sides. Remove the tongue-in-groove carefully, flip it over, clean it up and reapply it to the wall. New baseboard and top rail may need to be purchased to replace the old and the entire surface may be finished as desired. A friend of mine did just this in the bathroom of an old house in Oakland. It was simple and beautiful!
