May is National Home Improvement Month! What’s on you wish list? Here are a few suggestions that will never fail even before you begin that project:
Decide what you project is. Is it a repair or improvement? Best advice: do the repairs first, the improvements only after you have made your home dry and safe.

Before you pick up a hammer or hire a contractor, plan, plan, and plan. The more complete your planning is, the better your home improvement project will proceed from start to finish with few surprises and additional costs!

And finally, take a look at your homeowner’s insurance policy and make adjustments for the added value of the improvement project being done.

Happy Home Improving !

From De-Shedding Tools To New Pet Beds – It’s All Part For Spring-Cleaning For Your Pets

It’s spring!  Time to spring clean both around the house and the garden and spruce up your pet’s accessories too.

Dogs and cats do their own “spring cleaning” in the form of shedding which is their way of getting rid of their thick winter fur.

Shedding is a normal and natural occurrence. It’s how dogs and cats remove dead hair from their bodies and maintain their coats in top condition (along with good nutrition of course).

Keeping Your Grill Great

With warm temperatures finally here, it's time to haul out the barbeque and get it ready for the season. We think we can make it a bit easier for you this go round.

Here are a few common gas grill problems and their solutions:

BURNERS THAT WON'T LIGHT OR ARE DIM

When the burners won't light, there is often an obstruction in the fuel supply line. This normally occurs between the on-off valve on the barbecue and the burner.

Remodeling? – Choose Your Contractor Wisely!

According to a national  survey contractors will perform a good percentage of the work. So here’s a tip fresh out of our book “Home Remodeling for Dummies,” that will help you find a reputable and reliable contractor.

Don’t call a contractor until you know approximately what you components, appliances, fixtures, etc. that you want in your project. Collect magazine cutouts and pix from the Internet to show exactly what you have chosen. The you and the contractor meet for the first time he will appreciate your insight and knowledge and maybe even give you a few good tips about the products you have chosen. He will automatically know that, due to your extensive studies, you have an insight into real costs.

Returning to New Orleans to commemorate the National Kitchen & Bath Association's 50th Anniversary, The Kitchen and Bath Industry Show 2013celebrated "Laissez Les Bon Temps Roulez" as the good times indeed continued to roll amid a backdrop of positive economic momentum.

A limited supply of housing is helping to propel home prices even faster than wage growth... based on land, labor and materials cost constraints. In fact, home prices rose over 7 percent in the first 2 months of 2013, representing the biggest gain since 2006. Wallboard giant, USG, reported its first quarter net profit in more than 5 years, with Q1 operating income more than doubling year-over-year. Industry publishing leader Hanley Wood recently noted that home plan sales were outperforming budget "by far", with a reminder that builders buy plans only when they're ready to build.
