Welcome to the May edition of On The House Express! April was a busy month for On The House and May is shaping up to be equally eventful! We took On The House on the road to Everette, Washington and the Everette Home & Garden Show. During our visit we broadcast our program from the studios of our Everette affiliate, North Sound 1380 KRKO and hosted the On The House Wheel to Win at the Dunn Lumber booth at the Home & Garden Show. Dunn Lumber is a local sponsor of On The House.

April was a busy month for television too as we endevored to help viewers with their home maintenance and repair projects. During the month we made appearances on KING-TV in Seattle, KRON in San Francisco and KOVR in Sacramento. Looks like we're going to need to keep our overalls starched since it appears that there will be lots of television in our future!

In this month's issue you'll learn some great caulking tips; get hip on how to choose a patio door; and get the low-down on pressure washers plus a lot more.

Cleaning Screens and Other Spring-cleaning Tips

Spring is an important time of year for home dwellers. It's when we get a chance to shake the winter dust out of our pillows and mattresses and begin the process of cleaning our home inside and out. If you have a regular routine, the process can be easier and even fun. We have a pressure washer that makes cleaning everything outside a breeze. We use it to clean spider webs from beneath the eaves, dirt from the walls, especially at the trim over doors and windows, windows, screens, doors, patios and walks, patio furniture, the barbecue, statuary and more. The trick is to start high and work down. Begin at the roofline and work your way to the ground. Start at one corner of the house and work your way around. Don't use too much pressure. You won't want that powerful spray to take any paint off. Be sure to use detergent with the pressure washer. Most have a feature that mixes cleaners and other concoctions into the pressurized spray.Read more...

Zircon to the rescue!

Dear Zircon,
I have owned my Zircon StudSensor 4 for many years and have used it many times to do the ordinary chores like hanging pictures and finding wall cavities for running new wiring. I recently found a new use for my stud finder. Let me explain.

A few weeks ago while I was out of town on business my daughter's hamster, Fluffy, escaped from his cage. We figure he had been out for at least a day before she discovered he was gone. My wife and daughters searched high and low but could not find Fluffy. Read more...
